Murmured Futures

This event took place during Stratford, PEI’s Fall Fest event, supported by the Arts, Culture and Recreation Department. Participants who joined us, performed a newly created poem (created for the project) from PEI’s Poet Laureate – Tanya Davis. Walking with a variety of recycled debris with the poem text painted clearly, the style of performance draws from acknowledging the ongoing efforts of environmental sustainability on the anniversary of the devastation caused by hurricane Fiona.

Following the performance, each participant received a signed, silk-screen and hand painted print, in a limited (varied edition) of 50.

This event took place during an environmentally-conscious, family friendly, weekend festival, with live music, representation from local food producers and creators. This project encouraged dynamic communities coalescing around shared concerns, responses to climate change, managing resources and building more diverse and sustainable lifestyles. Representatives from the Department of natural resources were available in the reception to answer questions from residents regarding tree maintenance and replacement.

Murmured Futures

In murmurs and
shingle-shaking shouts
our fervour
for future
considers itself
now
in restless present
(too loud)
with past remnants
in tow
—so proud
and rueful
make sorrow useful
like seeds sprout
after
trees topple,
connections
prove
solutions
possible
with nature
of nature
all of us.
