As a north end resident, I have been contemplating the transition of the old Bloomfield School site, as I pass through the space fairly regularly. I noticed a small 1940’s style school speaker on the exterior wall of the vacant Fielding Building (built in 1929). I was struck by the similarity it had in shape to a New Year’s Eve party horn, and it appeared in my mind’s eye that it was waiting. I have installed this piece of sculpture to add my voice to the discussion surrounding Bloomfield’s future, and am thankful to Imagine Bloomfield and Housing NS for supporting the installation. My hope is to animate the space, and provide a possibility to engage other citizens in the discussion and development opportunity that is before us right now. Like many in our neighbourhood, I am hopeful that the centre can return to or exceed its previous usefulness as a hub in the community.
